Honestly, the best leads come by word of mouth.

A Web site is nice but doesn't generate much business. We have had a web site for a long time and cannot point to a single new client. But you still need one to look professional.

Word of mouth is nice too. We have several clients who came to us by referral. There should be more but you are entirely dependent on the good will of your existing clients.

The only thing that works for sure is direct mail. It's time consuming and expensive and you have absolutely no way of knowing which doctors need your service right now because the person on staff doing the billing has quit or is the doctor's brother-in-law doing a bad job. Most direct mail campaigns return 15% to 20% expressions of interest. Not these campaigns. It takes 1,000 mailings to get one response. It takes 10,000 mailings to snare one new client. We now have nine clients (just split with one recently who was costing us more than we earned on her practice). The fields are psychiatry, ob/gyn and podiatry . Moreover, the practitioners tend to give us the hard stuff (Medicare and Medicaid) and manage the easy stuff themselves. These fields are no accident. Practitioners in these fields tend to have solo practices and need all the help they can get. Multi-provider offices more often tend to have their own in-house billing.

Hope this helps.
