Submitting Non-Assigned Claims

Post by mbpros » Thu Jan 05, 2017 9:00 am

I have a provider who wants me to submit non-assigned claims without listing a Tax ID # on the claims and without listing the Group NPI on the claim. I know (or assume) I can set up the Practice Grid so paper claims could be printed without this info but I think electronic claims would reject if submitted without a Tax ID number and without a Billing Provider NPI. Am I correct?

And for Box 13 how do I have that field blank so nothing appears there (but not for all payers, only for certain payers)? Just uncheck the Assignment of Benefits box on the Policy 1 tab of the case?

Hi Steve, just uncheck Accept Assignment on the policy 1, 2, and 3 tabs. Setup payer overrides on the provider ids grid and select to file the claims as the individual provider. On the insurance carrier -> Options/Codes tab select Leave Blank for box 13. Keep in mind, the money will go to the patient when you do this, collect any money owed up front.

One more thing. How can I have Box 33 be blank? If the claims are non-assigned, the lawyer does not want the practice's billing info in Box 33.

Thanks

The last I checked, box 33 is required to file a claim with an insurance carrier. If you need the field blank, you will need to customize your version of the CMS-1500 2/12 form and delete all of the items that print in box 33.
