Preparing for Medisoft V17

Post by Jilda13 » Fri Jul 15, 2011 11:58 am

The working environment for Medisoft 17, which we all must have by year's end, is far more demanding than that for V12 SP2 that we are now running. Our old computer system is nearly ten years old and falls far short of what V 17 demands. So we bought a new system with a 3GHz dual core CPU and 4Gb of RAM. The idea was to get the new computer up and running then transfer Medisoft and all its data from old to new and then install V17 on top of V12. Ha!

Ours is a single-user system. It will not abide two copies of the program running or even not running at the same time. It took a lot of fiddling and phone calls to McKesson before we could even load the program onto the new computer. After making absolutely sure that we had several backup copies of Medidata, we installed V12 SP2 on the new computer and then attempted to restore the Medidata directory on the new computer. Our backups are made with Windows backup because the Medisoft backup utility spawns access violations.

At first glance our approach seemed successful. But opening almost all the practices brought the message: "This data doesn't exist, select a different set of data." The only practices that seemed alright were those established before we went to Relay Health for our clearing house.

Meanwhile V12 SP2 was running nicely on the old machine.

Instead of backing up the Medidata directory we copied the entire directory over the LAN to the new computer. That seemed to work. All the practices appeared to contain all the data they were supposed to contain. But when we attempted to send data to the clearing house via Claim Management we got the message: "The program field for this receiver needs to be specified." What does that mean?

McKesson has been cordial but not very helpful. V12 gets no more support and we get no answers even though we are trying to upgrade, at great cost.

So far as I know the installation on the old computer and the one on the new machine are identical. We don't expect them to run simultaneously since ours is a single-user installation. But either of them should run properly when it is the only one running.

Can anyone explain this and how we can fix it?

Browse here to find the EDI modules for Medisoft v12 sp2. When you run the install, hopefully you see RelayHealth in the list.

On your old computer Go to Lists -> EDI Receivers in Medisoft

Edit your RelayHealth receiver and click over to the ID tab. Note what you have in the Program File field and then enter it into your new computer.
