Large file size when backing up work

Post by tdachel » Fri Jan 28, 2011 4:55 pm

We just upgraded from version 14 to Version 16 SP1 (16.1.2.220) and we are having issues when our students back up their work. Their backup files are around 350mb and we believe that they should be under 3.5mb. The students save their work on flash drives.

3.5 MB might be expecting too much. Medisoft does not use the best compression algorithm when making a backup. I would expect somewhere around 10 MB. What is the largest file in one of their backups?

Of course, you also want to be sure not to set the backup destination to be inside of the Medidata folder. If it is, each time you backup, you'll get the contents of the Medidata folder, plus the most-recent backup. Your backup file will grow in size every time it's run, which will soon lead to problems.

:D Thanks so very much for pointing out that a doubling of the backup file is likely related to having the backups in the Medidata folder. Someone in the office had changed the backup destination and we were up to 180GB backups. Oh!
Can anyone tell me what happened to the Medisoft Knowledge Base? It looks like they have taken this down which I find incredible? We are using version 12 and don't have a service contract but I had sucessfully used the knowledge base until now as it has disappeared. Did they really make access to the knowlege base a paid support item?
Thank you so much for creating this forum. I am truly grateful.
