I have a patient's last name on a claim as Van Der Heide and that is exactly how I enter it in Medisoft. But when it appears on the claim it is all bunched together (VANDERHEIDE) and the payer (work comp) denied for that reason. They said there must be a space between Van and Der and between Der and Heide. Likewise, the claim number has dashes in it (like 999-88-777) but it is bunched together and the payer said there must be dashes in the claim number.

What can be done to ensure the last name appears exactly as entered in Medisoft and the same for the claim # (Policy number field) so they are not bunched up?

Thanks,
Steve

Try changing the insurance type to Medicare instead of Workers' Comp.

Thanks...name is still bunched up...plus Work Comp carrier might deny if we indicate payer type is Medicare. Might have to handwrite that info for this payer.

Are these paper claims? The f so you can customize your form and use the patient name lfm field.

OK...I can try that but what about the Policy #. If I enter 123-45-6789 (which is how the payer wants it with dashes), the dashes are removed and it becomes 123456789 and that causes the payer to deny...which is amazing considering these ARE paper claims.

There should also be an alternate policy # field you can use in the report designer for this purpose.

Thanks...The LFM worked for the name. For the Policy #, what I did was enter the Policy # in the Extra 3 field and then customize the CMS form and it works.
