I made a mistake by purging data and selecting delete closed data. Fortunately we have a backup but now we have a restored database prior to purging and the live database. We would like to merged it together without any data lost. Is there a way I can export closed data from the backup and import it to our live database?

There is not an easy way to do this. You'll need to work with a VAR who can move over the appropriate data for you. We could help you and we would just charge by the hour for something like this. It could take several hours.
