We just got the Windows 10 anniversary update on this particular computer. Medisoft 20 stops loading and hangs with 27MB in the Task Manager.

We are running v20 with the hotfix (.71) applied. I have re-added C:\Medisoft\BIN to the Windows Defender exception list, which had disappeared with this Microsoft update. The firewall exceptions are still there, and Medisoft is running as Administrator.

Any ideas?

I had the same problem with all the cumulative updates each month until I completely wiped the laptop to remove all the factory installed lenovo programs and only loaded Windows 10, word, excel, and medisoft v20.

This computer is clean, nothing else on it except MS Office and Medisoft -- The Medisoft is a fresh installation too. It is an HP, but Windows 10 was a clean install to a blank SSD. I am next going to do the same painful / painstaking step to kill one process at a time and see if Medisoft will continue to load.

Try turning off your Windows firewall and see if that helps.

Turning off the firewall made no difference, it has been at the splash screen for over 12 hours ...

Try Right-clicking the Medisoft Icon on the desktop and go to properties. Change the compatibility to Windows 7 and then also check run as administrator.

It was already running with admin privileges in Windows 7 compatibility mode.

Once the program hangs on the splash screen, trying Right Mouse -> Close Window does nothing.

I also just noticed that after the program hangs after loading about 6MB, the status in task manager goes to "not responding" as one might expect. However, when you kill the process, its status changes to Running and cannot be killed anymore.

Right-click on the mapa process there in task manager and select Analyze Block Chain and see if Medisoft is waiting on another process. Also, it looks like you have multiple mapa processes running. Are all of those hung Medisofts?

One more thing to try. If there is a pending reboot to finish Windows updates, then go ahead and reboot the computer.

No luck, still stuck -- No pending updates or reboots, nothing in the "Wait Chain" under details in Task Manager. Also, when I kill a hung Medisoft process, it switches state to "Running" and goes away after about 5 minutes--the multiple mapa.exe processes. Weird. In the meantime, I am using other computers or remoting into the server to get the work done :-(

Once again, is the BFE service that is blocking Medisoft from loading. As soon as I disable it, the program loads instantly. It was ok for a little bit, but the problem has returned.

If anyone else has a similar problem, I will gladly post the details.

Do you use Avast anti-virus? These anti-virus constantly update themselves and change the way they behave. Sometimes the anti-virus will only block Medisoft from starting when it is updating itself from the Internet. Other times, the anti-virus has to be completely uninstalled to get Medisoft to work.
