Medisoft v20 stops after Win 10 cumulative update

After this automatic update: Cumulative Update for Windows 10 Version 1511 for x64-based Systems (KB3156421) was installed, Medisoft Net Pro v20 stops loading up (just like it used to before the hotfix). However, Office Hours Pro v20 will still load and work as normal with the Update installed. If I uninstall this win 10 update, then Medisoft Net Pro v20 functions as normal.

Has anyone else experienced this issue?

I have exactly the same problem on *one* computer that started this weekend. I am running Windows 10 Version 1511 (Build 14342.1000);

I have also reinstalled medisoft on this computer, which did not help. I will try uninstalling the components of the cumulative update and see if it helps.

Uninstalling KB3156421 did not help. The application still freezes on the splash screen. Aaarrrghhh... HELP!!!

There is possibly some other program interfering. Try stopping other programs one at a time and don't forget the programs in the system tray including anti-virus. When you have found the culprit, Medisoft will instantly finish starting.

Well that worked, sorta. On one computer the culprit was ONEDRIVE and as soon as I killed it, medisoft started right away. Thank you.

Still struggling with two other computers, as these are not running onedrive and I am trying to narrow it down...

Hmm, you do have to reboot the computer after uninstalling KB3156421.

And you have the hot fix installed right? It should say it is version 20.0.3.71.

Yes to both -- rebooted, and hotfix applied. Still stuck.

Check to see if Windows 10 reinstalled that security update again. I am checking to see if there is a way to prevent Windows 10 from reinstalling a particular update.

There are no other programs running, the only change in the computer is the KB3156421 update. With the update installed I get the "MAPA.EXE has stopped working" and a "Close program" button. Just like when Medisoft v20 was installed originally on Win 10 before hotfix. (and yes, I have the hotfix installed). Have had no problems running Medisoft v20 on Win 10 until the KB3156421 update installed. Once I uninstall the KB3156421 update and reboot, Medisoft works as normal. It appears I am not the only one that has the problem. Also, OneDrive is not installed on my computer and the only AV is windows defender (with exclusion for C:\Medisoft).

The only options are to hide an update is https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/kb/3073930, one can disable the windows update service, or if have win10pro use gpedit.msc to change windows update behavior.

Any further thoughts on how to fix this problem would be appreciated.

No Ardu, you are not the only one having this problem. We have reproduced the issue here and we are getting plenty of calls about this now. Uninstalling KB3156421 appears to only be a temporary fix.

I have another client machine that is running 10pro, no onedrive, and still has the same problem. I have uninstalled all the "bloatware" apps such as xbox, etc are also gone (howto on tenforums.com - SFC, dism powershell commands), still no joy. Medisoft on my win 10 machines are dying, one at a time.

Time to dust off an old windows 7 pro DVD. Drat. :x

For now I have been able to uninstall the update and then used the "Show or hide updates" troubleshooter package found on https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/kb/ ... ce=twitter this has allowed me to hide this update and not allow it to continuously install. I miss Win 7 ability to be more selective about updates.

I read through what the compatibility update is supposed to fix and may be it is interfering with network connection or triggering the windows defender to shut down the program. I have not had a chance to trouble shoot those options, yet.

Any further thoughts are appreciated.

BTW, at least you are able to reproduce the problem. That makes me feel better.

You just have me another idea... I am going to try running medisoft in a Windows 7 virtual machine, at least until the issue is fixed, and probably much longer after that, if it works.

I like virtualbox ('cause its free). I run 2 VM (Win7 testing VM and Medinotes EMR VM). I have to run a Medinotes EMR in a WinXP VM on Win10. I have to have access to the Medinotes database for old records and the last version I have won't even run on Win7. VM are great. Forced Windows updates....not so much...
