Error 6420 on windows 10

Post by ardu » Thu Jan 07, 2016 3:11 pm

I am getting error 6420 - ADS database discovery error after moving to a windows 10 client computer. None of my other client computers (win7 and below) have this error. I opened TCP and UDP 6262 for win 10, still get error. Then turned off firewall completely on win 10, still get error. Is there another config setting I am overlooking that is new in win10? Is there another port that needs to be opened (138 is opened with file and print sharing)? Should I manually set the internet_port in the ads.ini file?

I am running win 10 home; medisoft v20 with update patch for win10.

The strange thing is, I can then close the pop up error message, then immediately attempt re-open medisoft v20 and it then connects just fine. I log in and can use medisoft v20, but after a minute or so, the error starts to pop up and then medisoft is unsuable with adsconncectionshared Failed to open warning box and error 6420 box both popping up when trying to use medisoft.

Any thoughts would be great. I have no problems with medisoft v20 on any other client or even if I run medisoft v20 in a win7 virtualbox on the win10 machine. Therefore, it has to be a setting in win10.

Does the system by chance have another ethernet port or connected by wifi and ethernet. We have seen where it will use both and cause issues. Usually just disabling any other NIC's except the one to the Medisoft network will resolve this issue.

Yes, client is laptop. Has wifi and connected through docking station Ethernet port. With wifi disabled in network connections and connected with Ethernet wired connection, error still occurs on startup of medisoft, but still able to log on with retry. Now the error messages as before, seen while medisoft is running, take longer to occur, but still happen.

Is this a known Bug in Medisoft? Is best practice to setup an ADS.ini file in the medisoft/bin directory? I am using discovery process of ADS and wonder if using ADS.ini would be a better option.

Setting up an ADS.ini file in the medisoft/bin directory fixed the problem so far. No errors yet. Will do more testing and report results.

It has been 2 weeks since error has occurred. The addition of ADS.ini file in medisoft/bin directory did fix my problem of error 6420 in Windows 10 with Medisoft v20.0.3.71

I used: [https://devzone.advantagedatabase.com/d ... upport.htm] under the LAN_IP/LAN_PORT section to setup my ADS.ini file correctly. Medisoft also seems to load faster since it does not have to go through the discovery process.
