Back ups

Post by hrw911 » Thu Nov 05, 2015 12:34 pm

When I try to restore a back up for one of my practices, I keep getting the error "The selected file is a root backup. Please select a practice back up file." This file should be a full practice back up file, and I've tried recreating the back up again to make sure that it's a full practice back up, but I am still getting this message when I try to restore it. How I do I fix this? I'm on Advanced version 19 sp. 1.

This can happen if someone created a root data folder within a practice data folder. You'll either need to use another method to backup and restore your data or clean out the root data files within your practice folder.

There must be root data in the backup. It would take going through the backup files to know exactly what.

How do I locate and "clean out" the root data folders?

Create a new folder in Windows called MedidataClean. Then press and hold F7 while you startup Medisoft and then browse to MedidataClean and add the tutorial database into it.

Now Browse in Windows to MedidataClean and get the list of files.

Make a copy of your backup and name in <backup file name>.zip

Double-click on it and delete out all the files with names that match the ones from your list of files.

Press and hold F7 again while restarting Medisoft and point it back to your old \Medidata folder again.

Close out of the .zip file and name it "mwbackupwithbadfilesremoved.mbk" and see if Medisoft will let you restore the data now.

I created a folder called MedidataClean. I held F7 and then selected MedidataClean. What do you mean by "add the tutorial database into it"? Should I cut and paste the "Tutor" folder into the MedidataClean folder or restore the tutorial database in Medisoft?

Look and see what you have in Medi "Clean" now.

Great, now you have a list of files to go and clean out of the MBK file using the procedure described above.
