Is the data you want to bring over V19 or an older version?

One way you could do this is to run a backup and save it to a thumb drive. Then bring the data over and create a new practice with the same name. Then restore the backup.

I was with you for the first sentence. So, I did do a back up to a flash drive, which is our typical way to update the files on the other computer, but we had to replace the computer, hence the problem. So, If i backup to a stick, then.... I see new practice, enter practice name, but then I need to give a path, and it's auto to c:Medidata/ I'm lost at that point

Andrew.... even tho you confused me... I think I figured it out. Had to copy and past the backup from the flash under medidata, then when doing the new practice, i had something to pull. then I did a regular back up and it worked. Thank you for taking the time to help me.... 4 hours of digging... Thank you!

Taking the chance that you are still receiving notices and still able to assist.
Running into this same problem again on another computer. Downloaded V19, need to download root data.
Down load from disk, click on Medisoft icon, have "find medisoft database", click browse, click on the medidata file of which I did copy and save my backup data into a new file under my dr name, and under medidata. It then says this is not an existing root data directory. I am not able to get into medisoft at all. any chance you have suggestions?

bak is for backup. Try removing the .BAK and leave everything else see if that helps.

Removed that file. Am I trying for the file that I uploaded under C: Medidata: AWW: 3.31.16 ? If so, I tried that and it tells me "this is not an excisting root data directory. Do you want to create a new one?" Or do I need to do a backup root data rather then backup data?

Restore that file. Remove the .bak from that file name.

If you only backed up practice data and now root data. Your best bet is to rebuild medidata folder. Create a practice. open the practice and restore the backup you have. You will have to put in the registration again.
