Access violation in mbackup.exe

Post by Jilda12 » Sun Feb 01, 2009 12:58 pm

We recently changed the clearing house from Medavant to RelayHealth. Instantly we lost our ability to make backups with the Medisoft backup module, getting the error message \"Access violation in Mbackup.exe.\" Since that date several weeks ago we have been unable to backup our data within Medisoft (V12.16 SP 2).

Medisoft has been unhelpful, to say the least. But what's new about that? Can you suggest a solution to this problem?

We are not without backups. We have been using the Windows backup, which is cumbersome and prone to input error. We would really like to have back what we have paid for.

There is a limit to the number of backup files that the Medisoft Backup can handle in a given pratice. I am not sure the exact number, but it is somewhere around 2,000 files. Once you hit that limit, you will get an access violation error in mbackup.exe.

The problem is both MedAdvant and Relayhealth generate tempory files and billing history files. These files are generated in a folder called EDI or EMC. These files never get cleaned up and will build up to exceed 2,000 files over time. If you make a backup of these folders and then delete the contents then your backups should process normally again.

Medisoft v14 sp1 contains a newly re-written mbackup.exe that is supposed to take care of this issue. We also run our own HIPAA Backup Service that does not have a limit on the number of files being backed up.
