Hi,

This is Jason M, we use Medisoft V19, we are trying to void a Medicare paid claim as it was billed in error. We have used frequency type 8 and ICN############# against original reference under Medicare and Tricare tab. We have Medicare and AARP as primary and secondary insurances respectively.
We received a rejection with the following error message "claim frequency type code is invalid expected value is "1" (orginal claim)

Please suggest.

Thanks in advance,

Jason M

Hi Jason, is there something different about the claim? It should match the prior claim you sent. Or possibly, the payer denied the previously sent claim and there is nothing to void. If you are trying to send a replacement claim, try frequency type = 7.

Hi Gavin,

I am looking at the EOP from Medicare and I do not see any changes on the earlier claim (charges, CPT codes, modifiers etc). We have sent the previous claim just once and got paid by Medicare. Also the payments are posted to system electronically. There's no denial as such. We want to void this claim as it was billed in error.

Please suggest.

Thanks in advance,

Jason M

Then maybe the ICN doesn't match. Are you just typing the number? Try leaving "ICN" off.

Here is the simple answer. Medicare does not allow for corrected claims with frequency code 7 or 8. Simply resubmit the claim and do not enter 8 as the frequency code (it will default to a 1 as the frequency code, which is the only value Medicare accepts).

"Medicare does not allow for corrected claims with frequency code 7 or 8."

I did not know that. Thanks for the information! You just saved the little remaining hair on my head.
