Patient Name Change

Post by drk » Wed Oct 26, 2016 11:37 am

A patient in our practice got married and changed her last name.

The Chart ID is still based on her maiden name, and the claim entry person doesn't always remember the chart ID, which now points to the married name. Normally this would not be a big issue, but we have some recurring patient appointments spanning many moons.

I suppose I can change the patient ID in Power Tools, but then we lose the old Chart ID for good. Any suggestions appreciated.

You could always search by last name instead of chart #.

I should have been clearer -- From the patient list, we can do what you suggest to find the case on the right side cases screen, but most of the time we have the transactions screen open, which does not give you the option of searching by last name. I like your idea better, because all cases related to the patient, even under different ChartIDs show up on the right.

Guess we'll slightly modify the workflow! Thanks for the tip.

You can click the magnifier next to the Chart Number field to bring up the Patient Search window and in there you can search by last name. Granted, that's 2 extra clicks.
