Emailing patient statements

Post by hrw911 » Wed Aug 24, 2016 3:32 pm

Is there a way to set up certain patient statements to be sent by email?

The easy and HIPAA secure way to do this would be to enroll for epay at BillFlash. Otherwise, it is generally a HIPAA violation to email patient statements if your practice falls under that regulation.

I understand the HIPAA issues and am familiar with Billflash, but still need to know if there's a way to do this directly from Medisoft.

Whoops, things got hectic around here and I forgot to include the link (see above now), to our website that explains all of this. In short, yes Medisoft can be setup to send the statements to BillFlash. If you enroll only for eBill, then only emails go out and you need to setup the email address on the guarantor in Medisoft. One of our customers is doing eBill only and they send out hundreds or email statements per month. The customer can create an account, log in, and see the statements you have previously sent.

I don't want to go through Billflash. I would like to send them out myself.

You'll need a patient portal like BillFlash provides to keep this HIPAA compliant.

That would not be the case if I were sending them by way of a secure email system that requires the patient to log in to an encrytped server in order to view the email. I did not mean for this to be a debate about HIPAA compliance, but rather a discussion about whether or not Medisoft Advanced version 19 is capable of doing this.

It would be reckless to program this in without HIPAA compliance. The solution is BillFlash. If you want to use your email service, then install a PDF print driver and print the statements to PDF one at a time and email them.
