Migrating from v6 to v19

Post by hokie123 » Mon Mar 31, 2014 10:38 pm

I am working with a client who wants to migrate from Medisoft Advanced v6 to v19. If I am working with a new computer with v19 installed, should I be able to make a copy of the MediData directory from the computer running v6 and convert that directly with v19 on the new computer?

Make a blank new practice in Medisoft on the new computer. Then run a backup out of Medisoft on the old computer. Restore the backup into the blank new practice in Medisoft.

Thanks. Are there any considerations I should take into account when restoring a database from v6 into v19?

Run a backup first in v6, and then pack and rebuild indexes on all tables before running a second backup for conversion to v19. You might also consider purging old appointment and claim data. If you do that, it will improve your chances of a successful conversion.

If you are getting a new computer, do not install v6 on the new computer.

I followed your instructions and during the conversion process (Updating Transaction Deposit ID's) I received the following error:
tblPax: Error 5016: Advantage could not find an index order with the specified name. The conversion cannot complete until this is corrected.

Any thoughts on what I should do at this point?

You did the rebuild index in v6 first right? Well, there must have been some sort of corruption in your database and the conversion could not complete normally. It will require you work with a Medisoft reseller who can do a data repair. We currently charge $300 to do a data repair. Sorry for the bad news.

Yes, I did rebuild the index in v6. I decided to try one more thing. On an old XP machine, I installed version 6.1 and restored the original database. I then installed version 8.0 on the same machine, and v8 was able to successfully convert the database. I then made a backup of the v8 database and tried restoring that on the new computer in v19. It appears to make it past the issue I was having before, but now I get the following:

Error 7078: The Advantage Database Server cannot authenticate the user. make sure the user name and password are correct. axServerConnect the conversion cannot complete until this is corrected.

I tried two things to see if I could eliminate the error. First I created a user account and password in Version 19 which matched the credentials in the v8 database. Second I tried deleting the user account in v8 and creating a new backup. Both of these attempts failed.

Any thoughts on why I would be getting this error when moving from v8 to v19?

Try running \Medisoft\Bin\MWSTRTS.EXE and see if that fixes your issue.

I tried running MWSTRTS.EXE and it reported the data was not valid v12 data.

I decided to try installing v10 and found that I was able to successfully convert from v10 to v19. When I looked in the conversion logs, I found the following in the version 11 conversion log:
Could not rebuild MWDIA index file

The other conversion log from V11 through v19 shows no errors.

Is there an issue with the MWDIA index not being rebuilt? Is there something I can look at in v19 to see if this caused any problems?

Well, now that it is in v19, if you can rebuild all indexes without any errors, then you can be pretty confident that the correct index is there on the MWDIA table.
