Encoder Pro and ICD 10

Post by mbpros » Mon Mar 24, 2014 8:31 am

I installed V19...and see a flaw with the GEMS mapping tool. Although it will map ICD9 codes to new ICD10 codes, rather than place a corresponding ICD10 code in the ICD10 code field for an existing code, instead it creates a whole new code on the CPT list. For providers who are used to billing ICD9 codes, it would have been better for them to be able to always enter an ICD9 code...and thus have the corresponding code in the ICD10 field.

SO, with Encoder Pro 2014, is there a way to do the mapping also. So, if you entered 739.1, it would find the corresponding ICD10 code(s)?

Or am I missing something with the mapping tool in V19?

The problem is, there are more ICD-10s than ICD-9s, so you can't for sure up-code an ICD-9 to and ICD-10, but you can down-code an ICD-10 to and ICD-9 in most cases.

Hey, Gavin:

Yes, but they should have had an option under the Create ICD 10 mappings on the 1-1 mapping tab to just add the corresponding ICD10 code to the existing code on the diagnosis code list. For the Other Mappings tab, I can understand why new codes would have to be created.

And am I correct that there is no option in Encoder Pro 2014 to find corresponding ICD10 codes?

No, it doesn't really have that. I use http://www.ICD9Data.com
