Guarantor not responsible

Post by EHCS » Tue Dec 24, 2013 1:58 pm

Is there a way to make it so the guarantor is not responsible. Sometimes in special circumstances the physician asks us not to bill the insured for their co-insurance due to different reasons. I know that we can uncheck patient statements so it doesn't generate them and then I guess we will see on patient aging that a statement never went out and go from there, but is there a different or more appropriate way to handle that. Thanks!

In this case you should apply a write-off adjustment for the amount that will be adjusted off. You should review the doctor's contract with the insurance. In most cases it goes against the contract to write off the patient's coinsurance and there can be big penalties if this is discovered.
