default question

Post by samz693 » Wed May 29, 2013 9:39 am

Hi Again,
quick question.. is there a way to set up Medicare with default modifiers (AT/GA) or (GY) where necessary on specific CPT Codes, but yet for all other insurance carriers that use the same CPT code not have those modifiers print? Hope that makes sense.
Thanks so much!!

In Medisoft you can only set up to 4 default modifiers per procedure code. There is not an option to setup another default for another insurance carrier.

You can setup the procedure code twice and use different default modifiers on the other instance of the procedure code. Setup Code 2 to be the actual procedure code that prints on the claim and then you can setup Medicare to use procedure code set 2.

Thanks Gavin,
I tried this but can't get a Code Set 2. We have the codes in, (have used Medisoft for 12yrs) it says Code 1 but it tells me I can only create one code with the same number. ie: 98943 can only be created once. I need 98943 in there, and then 98943 w/ GY for Medicare Only. 98940 w/ AT/GA for Medicare, and 98940 without modifiers for the other carriers.
Right now, for all Medicare patients we are entering Modifiers AT/GA and/or GY on all codes manually. (we send electronic/ansi)I thought if I could set up the practices that have AT/GA and GY as defaults, it would make it easier to enter billing. I just can't get it to work correctly.
Thanks! I really appreciate your help and the information I find on your forums.

Which edition of Medisoft do you have? Maybe that option is not available in Medisoft Basic and requires Medisoft Advanced.

This is found under Lists -> Insurance -> Carriers. Edit Medicare then go to Options and Codes tab -> Procedure Code Set field. Set it to 2 and then setup another procedure code in Medisoft for this instance and make sure Code Set 2 is the original procedure code you need printed on the claim.
