Switching Computers

Post by springhollow » Mon Feb 11, 2013 11:35 am

I have had Medisoft v12 SP2 on an HP Compaq with XP Pro for many years. I need to move the program and all the patient data to a new tower with Windows 7 Pro and 64 bit OS. How do I do this?
Thank you.

Install Microsoft XP Mode and then install Medisoft v12 sp2 under XP Mode.

Or, upgrade to Medisoft v18 which can be installed on Windows 7 Pro 64-bit without XP Mode.

Thanks Gavin
If I am able to get XP mode to operate on my new computer, should I install v12 from the original disk? How do I get the patient data from the old computer to the new one?
Thanks again.

If your disk has Medisoft v12 sp2 on it, then install from there. Otherwise you can use the Medisoft v12 sp2 install from my website. Just run a backup from your old computer and print your registration information. Register on your new computer just like it was on the old computer. Create a blank new practice on the new computer and restore your data in that practice.

Hi Gavin. Thank you for your help. The switch worked perfectly. Installed XP mode then v12 sp2 from your website and then restored data from old computer. I was unable to register the v12 sp2 I downloaded using my serial # from the original disk. How do I register the program?

Print or copy the registration information from the old computer under Help -> Register Program. Enter exactly the same way into the new computer.

Thanks Gavin. Now Medisoft v12 SP2 is registered but Medisoft Patient Accounting and Office Hours Professional are not registered. How do I register these programs? When I open Office Hours Pro the window pops up asking for registration.

Well, Office Hours Pro was a separate purchase on version 12. If you do not have a serial number for Office Hours Pro, then you should uninstall it. Older versions of Medisoft came with Office Hours Basic which was part of the Medisoft install.

This worked. I uninstalled Office Hours Pro and registered v12 sp2 according to your instructions. The program is working very well on the new computer. All patient data files seem to have transfered.
Gavin, thank you for your help. This has made our life here at the office much easier.
