Windows XP compatibility Win 7 and Medi Soft.

Upgraded lap top in Office am unable to restore data to Windows 7 operating system. Is there a computability issue in doing this? Is there a fix? MediSoft version 8 being employed.

Yes, this was fixed, but you have to upgrade to Medisoft v18 to get the fix.

If this is not feasible, you can upgrade your Windows 7 to Windows 7 Pro and then download and install XP Mode from Microsoft. You can then re-install Medisoft v8 in XP Mode and it should work.
