Guidelines for IP Addresses and DNS

Post by vsharmamd » Mon Nov 27, 2023 7:19 am

Are there guidelines for how IP addresses and DNS should be configured for Medisoft server and client workstations? For example, does the Medisoft Server require a static IP address and we should not use DHCP. After a power outage, the Medisoft Server was rebooted and while the Server and the Workstations can connect to the Internet, the client Workstations are unable to connect to the Server.

Hello, we ended up working with you on this one. A fixed IP on the server is required for Medisoft, but you still need DHCP installed on the server for the workstations. The main issue you had was a storm took out your switch and the computer that was able to network was because you plugged it and the server directly into your Internet router. Using the DHCP from your Internet router is a bad idea for Microsoft Windows domains.
