Transferring Medisoft database to a new computer

Post by NJMD » Wed Oct 28, 2015 10:46 am

I am on Medisoft V19.1.3.38 Networking with 5 computers setup as a homegroup. The database resides on the "Main" Computer. I am considering to replace this computer with a new one. I am familiar with the process of setting this up and can backup and restore database. However now we also have RM setup a few months ago. When I backup and restore I do not think the RMData gets backed up and restored the same way. Could I just copy and transfer this folder also and everything would just work?

Another pain every time we upgrade or move the database is the customized grid settings do not transfer. Anyways to save and transfer those grid settings? Thanks a lot.

Revenue Management data does not get backed up within Medisoft and McKesson does not give end users tools to easily migrate their data to a new server.

One method you could use would be to shut down Advantage on the old server and then rename the old server. Then rename the new server to match your old server name and create a MediData share name that matches the MediData share name on the old server. Do the same thing with your RMData share if you have a separate share for that. Then copy all the data from the old shares to the new ones and install Advantage on the new server.

Thanks a lot. I wouldn't be doing it immediately but have understood the concept. I would let you know when I do this. It does not make sense why they wouldn't backup that folder also.

Yeah, we have been requesting this from McKesson since version 15, but their whole backup process is buggy and not automated, so we use third-party backup software.
