what does this mean??

on my patient day sheet i see
total billing charge ??
total ins withholds
and on the bottom net effect on accounts receivable??
can you explain what these mean

Billing Charge - an amount you are charging the patient that is not applied to insurance. For example, you would usually setup a late payment fee as a billing charge.

Insurance Withhold Adjustment - An amount the insurance owes you, but they are withholding it until a later date. For example, in some specialties, insurance pays for supplies, but they withhold payment for the supplies until the end of the year.

Charges - Payments + or - Adjustments = Net Effect on A/R. On a growing practice Net Effect on A/R should be positive. If you have a backlog of A/R that you are working then Net Effect on A/R should be negative or you are probably losing ground. On an established practice where everything is caught up, then Net Effect on A/R should be near zero.

so 13,434.71 :( is bad?? i have a medicare claims that i know have paid but havent gotten the eobs yet

So that means the A/R grew by $13K during the time period you ran the report for.
