Alteration to the CMS Medicare Claims Processing Manual Amends Present POS Code Set

On August 6, 2015, the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) proclaimed an alteration to the Medicare Claims Processing Manual that will take effect January 1, 2016. The alteration amends the present Place of Service (POS) code set by inserting a new POS code 19 for “Off Campus-Outpatient Hospital” and altering POS code 22 from “Outpatient Hospital” to “On Campus-Outpatient Hospital”.
Please make updates to any default values and begin employing the new/updated codes after the effective day of January 1, 2016.
