Update on EPCS Capabilities

Post by Gavin Walker » Thu Jan 21, 2016 3:35 pm

The reason for this announcement is to deliver to you with an update on electronic prescribing of controlled substances (EPCS) capabilities with Practice Partner. There will be two (2) stages to this implementation.

The “Stage 1 – Stand Alone” means beginning with a third-party product to prescribe controlled substances. Operators would have to open that product and submit the controlled substance electronically via the third party application. E-Prescribe operators will be accountable for all fees related to this stand-alone product comprising but not restricted to:
  • Onboarding charges
    Operator/Permit Dues to submit EPCS
    Identity Proofing Dues

January 2016 Update: McKesson is now in talks with DrFirst. They have not finished an agreement with DrFirst at this point and expect this to take at least 30 days to finish. If you want to begin the EPCS procedure throughout this interval, you can sign up immediately with DrFirst via their gateway. This agreement will be involving you and DrFirst. This entails that all set up, teaching, and help for EPCS will be performed directly by DrFirst (http://www.drfirst.com/products/epcs-go ... hysicians/).
The “Stage 2 – Combined into the work flow of the Practice Partner eRx” denotes the Practice Partner product will be adapted to permit EPCS from the present eRx workflow. McKesson will use DrFirst, but they will included their APIs into the application so it will be a unified flow of prescribing. This will not happen by March 2016, so the stand-alone solution will must be employed till McKesson delivers the combined solution.

The “onboarding” procedure (Identity Proofing and token allocation) just needs to occur on one occasion. If you do this in “Stand Alone,” you will not need to do it over in the combined solution.
