Oct. 1 Surescripts Deadline: All Participants Must Adopt

Post by Gavin Walker » Thu Aug 14, 2014 2:27 pm

All Participants Must Adopt Surescript's New 10.6 Protocol

The Surescripts electronic pharmacy clearinghouse requires that all participants, both providers and pharmacies, adopt their new 10.6 protocol by October 1, 2014. This new protocol was mandated by the National Council for Prescription Drug Programs.

All of the following product versions are compliant with the Surescripts 10.6 protocol.
  • Practice Partner® v11.0
    Medisoft® Clinical v19 SP1 (with Practice Partner v11.0!)
    Lytec® MD 2014 SP1
None of the previous versions of the products listed above are compliant with the Surescripts 10.6 protocol. All Practice Partner, Medisoft Clinical, and Lytec MD customers who desire to electronically prescribe must upgrade to Practice Partner v11.0, Medisoft Clinical v19 SP1 or Lytec MD 2014 SP1, respectively, in order to meet this mandated requirement.

Note, when Medisoft Clinical v19 sp1 is installed, there is an option to leave Practice Partner at v9.5. This will NOT meet the Surescript's requirement. You must have Practice Partner v11 to meet this requirement.

We have been actively engaging with Surescripts to get details around any specific actions they plan to take either by October 1, 2014, or later.

At this time, we have not received any formal message from Surescripts regarding their plans. Given we are still waiting on these details, we still strongly encourage you to move forward with upgrading to the 10.6 compliant version prior to the October 1 deadline. Regardless of whether Surescripts takes action by 10/1 or not, McKesson will not be taking any action to disable e-Prescribing capabilities.

FINAL Surescripts® 10.6 Compliance Deadline

Post by Gavin Walker » Fri Oct 03, 2014 11:28 am

We have now received a formal message from Surescripts regarding the deadline for compliance with their 10.6 Sunset Policy for Routing and Medication History. In summary, Surescripts is giving you until June 30, 2015 to upgrade to an EMR that is compliant with the 10.6 protocol. Beginning on July 1, 2015, Surescripts will reject all pre-10.6 or 4010 transactions and only users transacting on 10.6 and 5010A1 will be able to send Routing, Medication History or Eligibility transactions.

We still strongly encourage you to upgrade to Practice Partner v11.0, Medisoft Clinical v19 SP1 (with Practice Partner v11), or Lytec MD 2014 SP1 before the end of the year, and not wait until the deadline. This not only ensures that you are compliant with Surescripts, but that you are also well positioned for attesting for Meaningful Use, which requires you to be on a 2014 CEHRT by January 1, 2015.

Should you ring support to state associated error messages whilst on 9.5.2 on or after July 1,2015, the only remedy will be to either disable the ePrescribing feature or work to upgrade to v11.

Moreover, please recall that the ICD-10 cut-over date – October 1, 2015 – is quickly advancing. You should be on V11 to use this coding structure.
