Get up to 2% Extra Reimbursement for e-Prescribing
All E-Prescribing systems that allow providers to qualify for the incentive program include features such as drug to allergy and drug to drug interaction checking, which provide an extra layer of safety when prescribing medications. Furthermore, practices may view patient fill histories in case there are any questions regarding what medications a patient has been recently prescribed. Formulary verification is also available, allowing a practice to prescribe the most cost-effective medication for a patient.
If a practice utilizes a qualifying e-prescribing system, they may use a g-code to report to Medicare regarding their use of e-prescribing. A practice must report a minimum 25 times during the reporting period to qualify for the incentive. (For precise program guidelines, please review the documentation by clicking here.)
Currently, controlled substances (schedule II – V) cannot be prescribed electronically. Also, patient fill histories are often limited by the data an insurance company provides, and are not considered to be comprehensive.
Despite the disadvantages, e-Prescribing can help eliminate errors and increase efficiency within the practice. With the MIPPA incentive program, e-Prescribing can increase a practices’ revenue.
