Billing Medicare with NPIs only

Post by ivanaknudson » Thu Jul 19, 2007 12:06 pm

Hi,
I was wondering if I could submit claims with NPIs(not legacy IDs) to Medicare only. As of July 2, 2007 they accept small amount of claim with NPIs only. I would like to try to do so, but I am not sure how to make this change happened for 1 payor only.
I need to put in box 24J - individual NPI and box 33A- Group/facility NPI.
For some reason even I get in 24J individual NPI it still keeps the group NPI below. And box 33a has GroupNPI, but still right next to it there is the individual NPI.
I just need one NPI per box 24 and 33

Any help will be very much apprecaited.

Hi Ivana, Medicare will not reject a claim because it also has legacy numbers on it. So you can continue to submit claims with these number on them. If it causes problems, you can always delete the legacy number out of Medisoft so it will not go on the claim.
