ICD-10 codes not "printing" on older cases

I upgraded to Medisoft V20 & used the code mapping utility, but when I'm testing, the new ICD-10 codes only show up on recently added patients' HCFA images that will be uploaded to my clearinghouse. For all the longer established patients/cases, the diagnosis code fields are just blank. Any idea what I'm doing wrong? Thanks. -Julia

I forgot to mention, that I changed the "transition date" to 10/1/2014 for testing purposes. Only patients who have the new codes manually entered into their cases are printing out.

Upconverting of ICD-9 to ICD-10 codes does not appear to be happening.

Also, my diagnosis pointers are still numbers instead of letters & the diagnosis codes that do print out are in the "old" positions that were on the HCFA 08/05 version. I thought V20 was supposed to upgrade all of these components.

Okay, so I solved the missing ICD-10 upcoding/upconverting issue by manually entering the ICD-10 codes in the Diagnosis code list where the ICD-9 codes were listed without equivalent ICD-10 codes, but that still doesn't solve the diagnosis pointer number versus letter issue or the fact that my ICD-10 codes are still "printing" in the old HCFA format. Thanks for any advice on these issues when you get a chance.

To clarify, I'm uploading the files to my clearinghouse. I hit Print/Send -> Electronic Format -> which then creates a text file. I have no control (as far as I know) how the information is formatted. If there is some way to control it, can you please let me know how? Thanks.

Apparently, even though ICD-10 codes are displayed on the upload, the Box 21 "ICD Ind" field is showing a 9 instead of a 0. I cannot figure out how to change that since nothing is showing on my .txt file. That field is blank. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

You need to start coding in ICD-10. Since there are so many ICD-10 codes than ICD-9, you cannot practically continue coding with ICD-9 and up-code to ICD-10. That is why as a default, the ICD-9 to ICD-10 mapping is not filled out. Also, you need to switch to ANSI 5010 claims using Revenue Management instead of print image. The print image built into Medisoft was never updated for the CMS 1500 2/12 form.

Hmmm, okay. I found your link to the instructions on how to start that process from v17, but is it the same from v20? I mean upgrading to the ANSI 5010 format. If the instructions are different, do you mind posting the link? Thanks. :)

The complete instructions to setup Revenue Management is too much to post here. Private message me your email address and I'll send you the current copy of the manual. The manual is a little out of date as it is not a priority for McKesson to update it, but the steps you need to do are all there. Also, the manual only explains how to setup RelayHealth, you have to get the ANSI 5010 companion guide from your clearinghouse or direct payer and enter that information into Revenue Management.
