THE USE OF THE '7' CHARACTER ON ICD10 CODES

Post by bel915 » Sat Aug 22, 2015 2:56 pm

Hello group!

I am still a bit confused and not fully knowledged with the upcoming ICD10 codes. I have a scenario I would like to use as an example for coding it with an ICD10 code:

So as well all know, the '7th' character on ICD10 codes will be either: A,D, or S and I want to know how to code my client's superbills.

A 7-year-old child was admittied to the hospital for a broken right femur. The pediatrician admits the patient (99222) with the pertaining ICD10 code for the fracture, so I would add a "A' as the 7th character. The pediatrician then does a subsequent visit to the patient the following day, does that mean I would add a "D" as a subsequent encounter to the ICD10 code?? I'm so confused!! :?

Any help is greatly appreciated!
