Diagnosis Cross Reference

Post by ltamulynas » Thu Oct 10, 2013 11:20 am

Does anyone know what a diagnosis cross reference is and how I would get one. I am trying to fill out a claim through MassHealth and they are asking for a diagnosis cross reference. It only allows me to input two characters.

Any help would be great.

Thanks! :D

What type of claim is this? Professional/CMS-1500 or Institutional/UB04?

A professional claim allows up to 8 diagnosis codes on it. The cross-reference indicates which of the diagnosis codes applies to that line item by entering the digit 1 through 8. Since they are allowing two characters, you can cross-reference a second diagnosis codes by entering the digit 1 through 8 in the second character position. So, if you enter "12" that means that the first diagnosis code is the primary diagnosis code and the second diagnosis code is the secondary code for that line item.
