CLIA number

Post by PPCCA » Thu Oct 06, 2011 1:20 pm

I have 2 practices that are separate practices in Medisoft. In both practices, we have the CLIA numbers entered under the "Default PINs" in the Provider info in Medisoft. One of my clinics sends the CLIA in the appropriate Loop 2300 REF X4 segment of the claim. The other practice, that has the CLIA number in the same field in MediSoft is not putting the CLIA number in Loop 2300. Does anyone know if there is something else that drives the placement of the CLIA number on the claims?

On Medisoft v17 the CLIA # is filled in this pecking order:
1. Case -> EDI -> CLIA #
2. Provider -> Reference -> CLIA#
3. Facility -> PINS grid -> CLIA #

We have V15. Can you tell me where to find the "Facility" info in the system?

I can't remember if CLIA# existed on the facility on v15, but Facility is in the Address List.

Thanks for your help Gavin. Unfortunately, this has not resolved my problem. I have been through all the fields that a CLIA number can or should be in, and both of my practices are set up the same. It still doesn't make sense that one practice sends our CLIA# on our claims and the other doesn't. And having to put it in each case is not efficient. That would also result in the CLIA# being appended to ALL claims; and not all claims contain lab codes that require a CLIA#. An effective PM system should pull the CLIA number from the facility/provider information, or from the CPT codes that require a CLIA number.

How are you submitting your claims? Paper or electronic? If electronic, through who and are you using Revenue Management or a direct module?
